Canada Job Grant for AI Training: Employer Guide (2026)
Updated 2026-10-15
The Canada Job Grant is run by each province. Employers apply before training starts, and the government can cover a large share of eligible third-party training costs per employee. Rules, caps and eligible providers vary by province, so confirm with your provincial program office before enrolling staff.
How the grant works
Each province and territory administers its own version (in Ontario it is the Canada-Ontario Job Grant, delivered through Employment Ontario). The employer chooses the training, applies, pays its share, and is reimbursed or funded for the rest.
Ontario has published cost-sharing where government covers up to five-sixths of costs for small employers and up to half for larger employers, up to a per-trainee cap. Figures change — always check the current program guidelines.
Steps to apply
A typical sequence:
- Pick the employees and the program you want them to complete
- Request a written quote or invoice from the training provider
- Submit the application to your provincial program before training starts
- Wait for approval, then enrol staff
- Submit completion proof (Altaris issues verifiable credentials) to close the file
